https://coalesceresearchgroup.com/…/neur…/abstractsubmission # Epilepsy  is a  # central  nervous system ( # neurological ) disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal, causing seizures or periods of unusual behavior, sensations, and sometimes loss of awareness. Anyone can develop #epilepsy. #Epilepsy affects both males and females of all races, ethnic backgrounds and ages.  # Seizure  symptoms can vary widely. Some people with #epilepsy simply stare blankly for a few seconds during a #seizure, while others repeatedly twitch their arms or legs. Having a single #seizure doesn't mean you have #epilepsy. At least two unprovoked  # seizures  are generally required for an #epilepsy diagnosis.

Why is the brain disturbed by harsh sounds? Neuroscientists have analyzed how people react when they listen to a range of different sounds, the aim being to establish the extent to which repetitive sound frequencies are considered unpleasant. Their results showed that the conventional sound-processing circuit is activated but that the cortical and sub-cortical areas involved in the processing of salience and aversion are also solicited. This explains why the #brain goes into a state of alert on hearing this type of sound.

Tackling the growing burden of brain disorders in Europe Frederic Destrebecq, Executive Director of the European Brain Council explains the importance of tackling the growing burden of braindisorders in Europe Over the last decades, neurological and mental conditions have steadily progressed to become the leading causes of disability-adjusted life years and the second leading cause of death worldwide. In Europe alone, an estimated 179 million Europeans live with brain disorders and 1 in 3 are set to live with one within their lifespan. Every year, treating brain conditions accounts for 35% of Europe’s total disease burden with a yearly cost of €798 billion, of which 60% are related to direct costs (both medical and non-medical) , which, in spite of the magnitude of these numbers, are still considered to be underestimated and outdated. New epidemiological and economic studies are currently underway to analyse the extent of this burden on European and global society. T...

TYPICAL NEUROLOGICALPROCEDURES During your first appointment with a neurologist , they’ll likely perform a physical exam and a neurological exam. A neurological exam will test muscle strength, reflexes, and coordination. Since different disorders can have similar symptoms, your neurologist may need more testing to make a diagnosis. Neurologists may recommend a variety of procedures to help diagnose or treat a condition. These procedures may include: LUMBAR PUNCTURE Your neurologist may use a lumbar puncture to test your spinal fluid. They may recommend the procedure if they believe your symptoms are caused by a problem in your nervous system that can be detected in your spinal fluid. The procedure involves inserting a needle into the spine after numbing it and taking a sample of spinal fluid. TENSILON TEST This procedure can help your neurologist diagnose myasthenia gravis. In this test, your doctor injects you with a medicine called Tensilon. Then they ob...
